On May 26t, 2011 took place in Union Española the ceremony of the XIX edition of the literary awards “escribo en español”. These awards are jointly organized by the Department of Education of California, the Agregaduria de Educacion from Spain and the Consulate General of Spain in San Francisco. The Honorary Consul of Spain in San Francisco, Mr. Jorge Montealegre, the Agregado de Educacion, Mr. Miguel A. Perez Abad and the representant from the Education Department of California, Mrs. Edda Caraballo participated in the event.

Aproximately 500 alumni from elementary, middle and high education from the State of California, and more than 80 Spanish teachers from 100 different schools participated in the awards.

Mr. Miguel A. Perez Abad thankfully appreciated the participants and congratulated the winners, and made a special mention to the Spanish publishing houses, Grupo SM, Grupo Anaya and Santillana that sponsored the awards by donating books and dictionaries to the winners.
