Although Science and Business have defined boundaries, neither discipline can thrive without the other. Innovation and technological improvements undergo scientific experiments and studies before the final products are presented to the targer market. Many scientific developments eventually become commercial products.

Science and Business communities are different players, interacting successfully in the Silicon Valley Ecosystem. We are inviting scientists of all diverse areas to join and share their experiences with our strong network of entrepreneurs, business and venture capital.

Spain Tech Week Conference

Thank you for attending the Spain Tech Week Conference on November 14 held at HP Headquarters in Palo Alto.

The event was a success. We fully accomplished our goal of showcasing emerging technology from Spain and its growing talent ecosystem to a wide audience of investors, executives from multinational corporations, local technology companies, entrepreneurs, government representatives from Spain and, last but certainly not least, our very special guests TRH, The Prince and Princess of Asturias.

Through their success stories, top Spanish executives working in the Valley and local Venture Capitalists gave a flavor of the Silicon Valley to Spanish authorities.

The session started with an opening by Mr. Jaime García-Legaz, Secretary of State for Trade from Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, followed by Mr. José Manuel García-Margallo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

During the panel “Spain Innovation & Technology”, IndisysSoftonic and Gowex shared their story, showcasing the talent they have, and the reasons for their success. Then, several Spanish top executives explained their perspective from a corporate point of view, and suggested ways to strengthen bridges between Silicon Valley and Spain. Alberto Yepes from Trident Capital, a well-known local investor, explained his experience investing in a Spanish company, Alien Vault.
The panel was followed by three pitches from Spanish entrepreneurs from FloqqThe Mad Video, and Userzoom. We had a remarkable moment when Alvaro Sanmartin (Co-founder of Floqq) broke with protocol rules and asked TRH what –as children- did they want to become when they grew up.

Finally, HRH The Prince of Asturias, Crown Prince of Spain, gave the closing remarks.
The program was followed by a networking session and Expo, featuring several up and coming start-ups from Spain: Archy, Imagine, inbenta, Ludei, Schoolfy, ThinkSmart, Visure, MashMeTV, mHealthAlert, Justinmind, Arpa-Solutions.
We look forward to organizing similar events in the coming months, and continuing to provide opportunities for our members to promote their businesses.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the California-Spain Chamber of Commerce and the various supporting organizations of the Spain Tech Week, we thank you for making our mission a reality.
